A Note From the Principal

August 16, 2026

Dear GLE Family,

What an incredible first week back! Our campus was bursting with energy and excitement! It was a wonderful reminder that our students are truly the heartbeat of Greenleaf!

Our teachers spent the first three days intentionally getting to know their students and creating opportunities for students to connect with one another. We know that strong relationships build the foundation for strong learning.

This week, we’ll continue building those relationships while diving into instruction and setting the stage for an amazing year ahead.

Every day, we learn. Every day, we grow. Every day, we get better!

Sonya Simpson

Attendance Matters

We had a great start to the year! Our current Average Daily Attendance for the first week of school is 98.9%!

Kudos to 1st grade for having a whopping 99.6% Average Daily Attendance for the first week of school!

Our goal for the month of August is 96.5%, so we are rocking it!

August 28th - The class with the highest attendance in their grade will get to visit the Arcade during recess.

Campus Spotlight

I am proud to share Greenleaf Elementary’s state accountability ratings from last year’s STAAR performance. GLE moved from a D to a C! We increased 10 points in Academic Achievement and 15 points in Academic Growth!

This growth did not happen by accident. Our teachers made every instructional moment count. But what is more impressive is that they did it during a year of massive change.

They welcomed hundreds of new students through rezoning and learned their needs quickly. They taught while our former building struggled to remain operational. They taught while packing for a major move. They taught after moving into a new building and rebuilding every routine. Through it all, they never stopped showing up for our students.

Our teachers are unstoppable. Our students are capable. And as I told them the night before testing:

“I’m confident that [the results will] reflect your hard work and sacrifice ... please know that I am already so proud of you ... we can hold our heads high, knowing without a doubt that we gave it our all.”

And we are just getting started!
