Principal

Sonya Simpson

Sonya Simpson, M.Ed

Sonya Simpson began her teaching career at Splendora ISD in August 2010. She was a third and fourth-grade teacher at Greenleaf Elementary from 2010 to 2019. Sonya mentored new teachers and sponsored the Wildcat Roar, the student newspaper club. She was privileged to serve as the reading specialist at Greenleaf Elementary in 2019. In 2020, Sonya was the Instructional Specialist at Piney Woods Elementary. After that, she served two years as the Assistant Principal of Piney Woods Elementary.

In 2010, Sonya graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. She received a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an Instructional Coaching emphasis in 2019, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership in 2020. 

Sonya and her husband, Brian, reside in Splendora ISD. She enjoys working with students, teachers, and parents, and believes every day is an opportunity to learn something new.

Megan Durtche

Megan Durtche is an educator, wife, mama of two sweet little ones, and a servant of the community! On any given day, you can find her working with students and their families, supporting educators, running her kids to practice, or cooking delicious meals! A lover of the outdoors and native Alaskan, adventure is in her blood. Mrs. Durtche is wrapping up her doctoral program and has been in education in one form or another for more than 15 years. She looks forward to joining the Greenleaf family and is excited to give back to the most precious citizens of Splendora!

Veronica Hernandez

Veronica Hernandez graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering back in her home country of Venezuela in 2011, where she was the valedictorian of her class. In 2015, she decided to pursue a career in education in the United States, enrolling in an alternative certification program in order to become a Texas teacher. As a result of her efforts, she began working in Greenleaf Elementary in 2016 as a second-grade teacher. She has also taught fourth and fifth grade. She has served Splendora ISD in many capacities, such as team lead, mentor, and curriculum writer. Mrs. Hernandez feels honored to serve now as an Instructional Specialist and is committed to guide, coach, and support a wonderful staff to meet their individual and common goals. She feels blessed to work for a district that puts students first and focuses on cultivating exceptional people.

Coker

Jennifer Coker

Jennifer graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in December 2013. She has taught kindergarten, second grade, and third grade. In August 2023, Jennifer transitioned into the role of STEM instructional coach and is eager to foster growth at GLE in the upcoming school year. She is married and proud of her three children: Shelby and Jerry are finding their way in the world, while Elyjah is currently a first-grade student at GLE.
